We the guilty
Of Christian birth and steeping in original sin
A nation of escapists who screwed up the “Old World”
Escaping the harsh reality of personal responsibility
Looking for a “New World” to destroy
Living with the guilt of our ancestors
Displacing natives, creating slavery, segregation, hate
Peopling a nation with ideologues, philosophers,
Profiteers, insatiable gluttons, sheep
Mind numbed pleasure seekers, power brokers, and religious zealots
Immersed in corrupt politics and social engineering
Wealth, ownership, power
Trapped in America, trapped in my room, I’m guilty as hell, “Who isn’t?”
Indian … reservations, casinos, baseball team, motorcycles
Where’s the respect for those who were here first?
Self respect
Where’re Adam and Eve?
Where’re the dinosaurs?
Where’s clean air?
Where’s clean water?
Unnatural waste is everywhere
Disease abounds, endemics, pandemics, epidemics
Inoculations, injections, syrups, pills
Fat kids, fast food frenzy, skinny models, bulimia
Handicap accommodation fanaticism
Global warming, global cooling, droughts, floods, famine, War
Good cigars, clean air, fast cars
Millionaire athletes, impoverished fans
Gold roofs and dirt floors
Babies with babies, abortion, birth control
Single moms, single dads, foster care, drugs, jail
Plastic, plastic, plastic, glass and steel
Crash and burn, sue, sue, sue
Lawyers, liars, cheats, and thieves
Stealing land from native inhabitants
By whose authority we claim it, then we trade it, even more
Creating a real estate mess that threatens our economy
Fighting over property that doesn’t even belong to us
People so helpless that they create a government Nanny
Complain when it doesn’t work and as it takes on the wealth, ownership, and power
That we surrender to it
We are guilty as charged
Electing a leader born of our guilt
Not a messiah, not full of hope
Just another, desiring power
Verbose ideologue in a long line of windbag corruptibles
Green power, black power, wind power, carbon power
Carbon credits, carbon caps, carbon footprint
We can’t trade and purchase virtue, innocence
There is no turning back
There are no lessons learned
No Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Ronald Reagan, can help us now
Unless we give it all up and start all over
We are now and ever will be a “Nation of Guilt”
“God Help Us” to do the best we can
